Formentini Pinot Grigio
A little about Formentini Pinot Grigio...
Founded in 1520, Formentini is the oldest house in the Collio, which most authorities see as one of Italy's finest wine growing districts.
Located between the Judrio and Isonzo rivers very near the border with Slovenia, the Collio enjoys the protection of the Pre-Alps to the north and the moderating influence of the Adriatic Sea to the south.
Pinot Grigio excels in the Collio, and the Formentini version is unusually ripe and round with notes of honey and almonds. Grape Type: 100% Pinot Grigio.
Tasting Notes: Golden yellow in color. Complex, fragrant bouquet that recalls honey, straw and walnuts. The taste is full, soft, well balanced, with ripe pears and hazelnuts in the finish.
Food Match: shellfish, salads, pork, fish, chicken, asian cuisine, antipasto
Melini Chianti Borghi D'Elsa
A little about Melini Chianti Borghi D'Elsa...
Melini just celebrated their 300th anniversary!!! The Melini family constructed their first winery in 1705 in Pontassieve, a village on the outskirts of Florence. Their wine was consumed locally until 1860, when Laborel Melini collaborated in developing the straw-covered glass flask (fiasco), which made it possible for wine to travel safely overseas.
Grape Type: 80% Sangiovese, 10% Canaiolo Nero, 7% Malvasia, 3% Trebbiano
Tasting Note: Bright, ruby-red. The bouquet is intense, fragrant with elegant scents of iris and raspberries and spices. The taste is dry, full and harmonious with an elegant aftertaste of toasted almonds and fruit.
Food Match: pork, pizza, pasta in meat sauce, chicken, antipasto |
