A little about Pascal Jolivet...
The house of Pascal Jolivet is one of the youngest and most dynamic in the Loire Valley. Founded in 1985, this specialist in the wines of Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé has very quickly gained a leading position with the Michelin-starred restaurants of France. Pascal owns an estate of more than 40 acres evenly divided between the two appellations. He believes strongly in letting nature make the wines as much as possible, and seeks to tame the more aggressive qualities of the Sauvignon Blanc variety.
Jaboulet Aine
A little about Jaboulet Aine...
The Jaboulet company was founded by Antoine Jaboulet (1807-1864). His twin sons, Paul and Henri (1846-1892) continued to expand the family business. The elder son ("aîné" in French), Paul, established the company in its present form and gave it his own name. Since then, the company has been run by successive generations of sons from that side of the Jaboulet family.
The House of Paul Jaboulet Aîné specializes exclusively in the wines of the Rhône valley, where the vine was planted by the Romans, if not even earlier by the Greeks. Jaboulet offer a range of wines from over twenty different appellations.
The reputation of Jaboulet wines rests on the quality of the vineyards, well situated and well tended, on low yields, careful vinification, and aging in oak casks. The firm also makes very selective purchases of wine. Bottles are specially made of thick, dark glass which ensures that the wines mature well.
Jaboulet wines symbolize robustness and elegance, essential qualities of great wines. Writing in the late 19th century, the English authority George Saintsbury described Jaboulet Hermitage as "the manliest French wine I ever drank". |
